Stephen Richmond's Heirs

New York, Land Records, 1630-1975, Columbia County, includes S-133, a deed that deals with the estate of Stephen Richmond, son of Edward andElizabeth Powell Richmond.  T-317 is another deed pertaining to the estate and Stephen Richmond's heirs.

One of the heirs, Sybil Richmond, married Martin Spencer (in a Spencer family tree: iv. Martin, d. in Columbia Co.; m. Sybil Richmond. that also mentioned Gerrard Spencer, a Spencer ancestor of mine through his daughter Sarah).  The Richmonds are also cousins of mine.

Another heir was Peleg Sisson Richmond.

Benjamin Richmond Testifies

From Minutes: Albany County sessions, 1778-1781 (Volume 3):

Richmond, Benjamin, testifies regarding conduct of Amos Moore and others, 414.

From the Commissioners For Conspiracies index.

The text from Volume I:
Resolved that William Foster & Benjamin Richmond be severally examined respecting the Conduct of Amos Moore, John Miller & Lucas Moore and it appearing from their Examinations that the Said Amos Moore, John Miller & Lucas Moore have been with the Enemy therefore Ordered that the[y] be Severally Committed & that a Mittimus be made out for them.

My guess is that he is the Benjamin Richmond who is the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Powell) Richmond.  If so, Benjamin is either the brother or uncle of my Elijah Richmond (Elijah is supposed to be Edward's son, but which Edward is not yet known).

Was Elizabeth Powell's Father Thomas or Truman?

While most researchers who have posted their family trees at Rootsweb's WorldConnect name Truman Powell and Elizabeth Carpenter m. Connecticut as the parents of Elizabeth Powell (b. 2 July 1727) (b. 12 March 1726) or (b. 18 February 1727/8) who married Edward Richmond, there are listings for Thomas Powell (and wife Abigail Hallock).

Thomas Powell's family can be found here in "Long Island Genealogies" by Mary Powell Bunker, b. 1820. Thomas & Abigail (Hallock) Powell had a daughter Elizabeth, born 2 July 1727, in Bethpage, who married Micah Post. One family tree with Thomas Powell as the father of Elizabeth Powell, lists Edward Richmond as her 1st husband (m. 1745, Sharon, CT) and Micah Post as husband number two whom she married in 1761. That doesn't work however, because that same family tree lists the birthdate for the youngest Richmond child as 1784. The will of Thomas Powell III, made 2 February 1855, names daughter "Elizabeth Post."

The (Truman) Powells and Richmonds were early settlers of Spencertown/Austerlitz, New York.

Thomas Powell of Bethpage, Long Island, New York had a daughter, Elizabeth, b. 2 July 1727, who married Micah Post. Truman Powell had a daughter, Elizabeth, born in Connecticut, who was probably born 18 Feb in either 1727 or 1728. [Hope to find more definitive information about her birthplace and date]

Who Was Elijah Richmond's Father? #2456, #941a,

Elijah Richmond is listed as #2456 & #941a, which makes him either the great-grandson or grandson of Benjamin Richmond. As a further complication, there is speculation that Elijah's father could have been James and not Edward.

There is definitive information on my lineage to Elijah, but nothing conclusive beyond him.
