— 5861. Jonathan 8 , born March 13, 1842; unmarried. He was a farmer, and lived in
Shawnee Co., Kans. 

Letters of Jonathan Richmond...

"Governor Goodwin's party left Fort Larnard (Larned) in Nebraska, on October 15th, 1863. One of the members of his party was Jonathan Richmond, who came to Arizona under the promise from Judge Howell, that he would make him clerk of his court. This young man was a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan; was educated at a military school in New England; spent a year in Oriental waters on a merchantman from Boston; served two years in the Navy during the Civil War, and, after a short residence in Arizona, finally located and spent the balance of his life on a ranch in Shawnee County, Kansas. To Miss Rebecca L. Richmond, a relative of Jonathan, Arizona is indebted for the following letters which describe the course of the Governor's party from Fort Larned, Nebraska, to Fort Whipple, and happenings along the way."

Ida Richmond Of Ottawa, Kansas


Information from Deed 86-598 (Image 311) made in Allegany County, New York, on 1 July 1870, indicated that Ida Richmond of Ottawa, Franklin, Kansas, was the child of Murray J. Richmond, late of the Town of Independence, County of Allegany, State of New York, deceased and that Leonard Briggs was her her step-father.  Ida was an interested party in Ebenezer Richmond's estate.  [Cross-posted at In Deeds in July 2014]

"...Sylvester’s parents, David and Eleanor Richmond, left Canada sometime before 1850 and moved to Ashtabula, Ohio. The Richmonds were still in Ashtabula in 1850."  Sons of David and Eleanor mentioned were Webster Joshua Richmond, David Richmond, and Sylvester Richmond(Webster) Joshua Richmond was killed at Gettysburg and is buried there.  A daughter, Rhoda, is listed with the family in the 1850 census, and another daughter (Naomi)*, age 18, was also with them.

Phebe (Richmond) Thorne







946.  ICHABOD RICHMOND married Pamelia Bettes of Brighton, Canada West, who was born about 1782.  They had fourteen children, who also had large families.  They resided in Brighton.

CHILD:

2520.  Phebe (7), born about 1816; married Jonah Thorne.  Resided in Ashtabula, Ohio.

The Jonah (1813 - 1899) and Phebe (1816-1863) Thorne family moved to Lowell, Lake Co., Indiana.  The Lowell Public Library has a biographical page for this family.

Jonah Thorne's obituary stated that he had 3 children (one died in infancy) and that two daughters survived him (Mrs. P.D. Clark and Mrs. J.A. Ault both of Lowell).

Also mentioned in the Lowell Public Library page article: 
Jonah's brother, Franklin, settled in Chicago where he built an iron foundry called the Franklin Iron Works. It is now the Wisconsin Steel Mills and a subsidiary of U.S. Steel.  One living granddaughter of Jonah Thorne, a daughter of the Perry Clarks, is Mrs. Etta Vories, age 79, of Port Huron, Mich. She will be in Lowell for centennial festivities.  Other descendants, many living in Lowell, are Walter James, Getti Powell, Mrs.Agnes Machacek, Mrs. Iva Nichols, Mrs. Alice Ruley, Myrtle Johnson, Thorne Clark, Millard, Virginia and Margaret Clark.

Phebe (Richmond) Thorne was living in Lowell, Lake Co., Indiana, in 1860, with her husband Jonah and others. Her 18 year old daughter, Sarah Jane, was living with her husband, Perry D. Clark, also in Lake County, Indiana.  Daughter (Lauretta) Abigail and her husband, John Ault were living in Allen Co., Kansas, in 1860.

 Perry and Sarah Jane (Thorne) Clark were still in Lowell, Lake County, Indiana, in 1900.

Perry Clark, son of Jabez and Deborah (Backus) Clark, originally of Tompkins Co., New York, married Sarah Jane Thorne.  Sarah Jane's father, Jonah Thorne, married Perry Clark's widowed mother, Marietta Clark, according to the Lowell Public Library article.

John and Lauretta Abigail (Thorne) Ault moved to Kansas for several years, but had returned to Lowell, Indiana, before the 1900 census was taken.

#7428 - John & Eliza (Partridge) Powers, of Illinois

John Powers, born 1 November, 1841, in New York, to Cyrus & Nancy (Richmond) Powers [not part of my Michigan Powers family], and was their 1st son and 2nd child.

John Powers married Eliza Augusta Partridge, daughter of L. Augustus & Ellen (Miner)* Partridge (or Pattridge) of Peacham, Vermont. Her lineage can be found in the Genealogy of the descendants of John White of Wenham and Lancaster, Massachusetts, here. Eliza (Partridge) Powers died April 6, 1911 "at the Illinois farm," according to son Jerome's biography. Eliza's sister, Helen Partridge, married William B. Powers, John's younger brother.
