MARY CHURCH RICHMOND (7) (Jonathan 6, Nathaniel 5, Sylvester 4, Silvester 3, Edward 2, John 1) was born at Grand Rapids, Mich., May 31, 1813 and died January 25, 1842. She married, January 28, 1834, Hamilton Brownell. He was a merchant. They resided at Richmond, Va., in 18??
CHILD: Jonathan Brownell, born July 20, 1841; died April 10, 1842.


REBECCA RICHMOND (7) (Jonathan 6, Nathaniel 5, Sylvester 4, Silvester 3, Edward 2, John 1) was born at Grand Rapids, Mich., March 22, 1817. She married August 16, 1837, John Marsh. They resided at Aurora, NY.

ELIZA JANE RICHMOND (7) (Jonathan 6, Nathaniel 5, Sylvester 4, Silvester 3, Edward 2, John 1) was born at Grand Rapids, Mich., May 30, 1819, and died in Moscow, NY, December 30, 1848. She married, October 22, 1845, Charles Jones. He was the son of Capt. Horatio Jones, who was captured by the Indians, and held prisoner many years. They resided in Aurora, NY.

Child: Mary Loraine Jones

Their brother was William Almy Richmond; his daughter Rebecca wrote the diary that is excerpted below:

TUESDAY JANY 7. -- Cold and high wind. Called upon Mrs. Dr. Mills, Mrs. Dr. Brewer, and Mrs. Parker. Mrs. Dr. Mills was a Miss Halsey of Trumansburg, N.Y. and therefore connected to uncle John Marsh's family. She has two daughters at Miss Porter's school at Farmington, Conn., and Mrs. Dr. Brewer is another daughter. Mrs. Major Parker is a young Philadelphia lady, quite pleasing, and reminds me of Georgie Bull of Detroit. her husband is a fine guitarist.

As descendants of Silvester Richmond (Edward 2, John 1), these Richmonds are Mayflower descendants.

Helped By The Woman's Relief Corps

An inquiry to determine if Mrs. Almina (Richmond) Langworthy should be admitted to the Old Soldier's Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan [she was] was explored. A partial answer to that question found in a letter dated 22 April 1909, from Mary M. Ford, President Corp. 245, Big Rapids, Michigan, below:

My dear Sister:

Yours of the 12th received, but was a little late in reaching me, on account of going first to our past President, Mrs. Harshman and it took me some little time to investigate the case of Mrs. Langworthy and have done the best I could.

One of the five children*...I hear, is in the insane asylum

...and the others are not in very good circumstances, have no property of any amount. As to the physical and mental condition of Mrs. Langworthy I was not able to learn much, but one gentleman, who has known the family a good many years, tells me that she is a very worthy woman and we don't think there will be any mistake made in admitting her to the annex at the Soldier's Home. Hoping these answers to your questions will prove satisfactory.

Death Notice of Eliza Jane (Richmond) Jones

The New York GenWeb's Monroe County site has several early newspaper items transcribed. One item found here pertained to a member of the Richmond family.

In Leicester, on the 30th ult, Mrs. Eliza Jane, wife of Charles JONES, and daughter of Hon. Jonathan RICHMOND, of Cayuga Co., aged 29 years.

Almina Langworthy In Old Soldier's Home

Almina (Richmond) Langworthy was the daughter of Thomas (#5266 in the J.B. Richmond book) and Laura (Backus) Richmond. A Langworthy researcher has her listed here.

Posted is a copy of her application to live in the Home For Soldiers, Sailors and Marines in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan (based upon the service in the Civil War of her husband, Thomas J. Langworthy).
