Nancy Pitt, Daughter of Abigail (Richmond) Pitt

After stumbling across Nancy (Pitt) Benton Barnard in a deed in Livingston County, New York, at FamilySearch, I pursued my hunch that there was a possible Richmond family connection.  My clue Samuel Pitt who was mentioned in the deed.  The name of Pitt stuck with me because Helen Pitt (Nancy's niece) married the famous Frederick Douglass.

#1089* Nancy Pitt (6) was born 18 September 1774.

Nancy's RICHMOND lineage from the J.B. Richmond book:

Nancy (6) (Abigail Richmond 5, William 4, Silvester 3, Edward 2, John 1), was the daughter of Captain Peter Pitt, Jr., and Abigail Richmond.  Nancy Pitt and her siblings were born in Dighton, Massachusetts.  *J.B. Richmond book designated number

The Pitt family went to Genesee County, New York, and were the first white family in Ontario County.  They removed, about 1790, to what the Indians called Honega Flats, now the town of Richmond.

Nancy Pitt married (1st) David Benton:

Children of David and Nancy (Pitt) Benton:
Phoebe W. Benton m. Aldolphus Watkins of Lima, NY
Gideon Pitts Benton
Mary Benton m. John Gould
Ebenezer Benton m. Lavinia Freeman

Ebenezer Benton's will designated "heirs of David Benton" on 28 May 1812.  David's date of death was listed as 30 September 1803.

Nancy (Pitt) Benton married (2nd) Chauncey Barnard, David Benton's nephew.  Nancy Barnard died 22 February 1847.
