Ephraim Howland’s immigrant ancestor was Arthur Howland, brother of the Mayflower passenger John Howland. Arthur Howland, Jr., son of the immigrant Arthur Howland, married Elizabeth Prence, daughter of Governor Thomas and Mary (Collier) Prence, to the dismay of the Governor. Before their marriage, Arthur Howland, Jr., appeared in court (with Governor Prence as the judge!) and was ordered to cease and desist his courtship of Elizabeth Prence against the wishes of her parents. It was a religious thing – the Howlands were Quakers. The Howlands were among those who were fined for “frequently absenting themselves from public worship of God.”

Governor Prence, who came to America in 1621 in the ship “Fortune,” was first married to Patience Brewster, daughter of Mayflower passenger William Brewster.

Ephraim Howland's granddaughter, Harriet Howland, married William Allen MacDonald of Roscommon County, Michigan. William Allen MacDonald was already in my family tree. Mr. MacDonald's aunt, Harriet MacDonald, was the first wife of A. Edward Cameron, who was my grandmother's uncle.

From the History of Montana:

Mr. [Everitt Hiram] Brundage's father, Hiram Brundage, was born in Canada, came to the United States when a boy and first settled in Indiana. He came to this state in 1863 and has ever since been in the west. During Indian war times he was telegraph operator at Bridger, driving through the country under the escort of soldiers and assisting in getting the first telegraph line through to Salt Lake City. It was he who established the Dillon Tribune, one of the leading newspapers of Montana. Now retired, he resides in Lower California, and enjoys universal respect. The mother, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Holiday, married in Pennsylvania and died in Virginia City, Montana, where she is interred. There were five children in the elder Brundage family, the subject being next to the eldest. The remainder are located as follows: John is married and resides in Beaverhead county; Anna, now the wife of Thomas Shaw, resides in Madison county, 

Montana; Adelaide is married and makes her home in the state of Washington; an infant sister, Elizabeth, died at the age of two years.

Hiram Brundage died in 1914 in California.
