Walter O. and Sarah (Powers) Carpenter were living in Bureau County, Illinois, in 1860.  Walter, who was born in Rhode Island, was living next door to Henry S. and Ann Carpenter.  Henry and Walter were brothers (their parents were Sturgis Phinney and Sarah (Davis) Carpenter).  Henry's wife, Ann, was the sister of Joseph Young; Joseph Young married Julia Powers who was Sarah (Powers) Carpenter's older sister.  [See Sturgis Phinney Carpenter's ancestry here]
