Mrs. Nancy Richmond was infatuated with Edgar Allan Poe.  He may have written the poem, "For Annie" for her.  See the details here

Was Mrs. Richmond using Anna/Annie before her husband died?  Charles B. & Anna L. Richmond, with 9 year old Guy Richmond, were living in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1870.  Charles was a paper manufacturer.

Nancy Locke Richmond formally changed her name on September 23, 1879:

In 1880 Nancy or Annie was enumerated as C.B. Richmond!  Living with her on Andover Street in Lowell, Massachusetts, were her daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and E.A. Coffin, and Nancy/Annie's son (first name not listed), age 8 [prob. 18] and 2 servants.

Carrie (Richmond) Coffin (1844-1914) was unhappy with her mother's decision to change her name to "Annie" because it was perceived as an insult to her late father, Charles B. Richmond.  There was a "lingering estrangement" at the time of Annie's death.
