Lyman Madison Richmond (#5455) & Family

Lyman Madison Richmond, born 22 July 1821, in LeRoy, Genesee Co., New York, married Nancy M. McKendrick in Green Oak (prob. Livingston Co.) Michigan in 1842. The family settled in Greenbush, Clinton Co., Michigan. Lyman was a Mexican War veteran who supposedly died from disease on 27 September 1848 (however, a child (Dan) enumerated with Nancy was born October 1851).

Nancy (McKendrick) Richmond was living in St. John's Village, Clinton Co., Michigan, with her daughter, Frances, and son-in-law, Edwin Smith, in 1900. The J.B. Richmond book mentioned that Nancy's mother was Maria Arnold White and that she was a second cousin of Stephen A. Douglass (his genealogy here). Other prominent names in her lineage were Green, Arnold, Atwell, and Maine. There was a Nancy M. Richmond, born in 1832, buried with Dan Richmond (her son), his wife, Ida, and daughter Aleta, in Woodlawn Cemetery, El Dorado, Union Co., Arkansas. She was probably born in 1822; census records (different years) show 1822 and 1832.

Olney Hawkins Richmond, son of Lyman and Nancy, was born 22 Feb 1844 in Clinton Co., Michigan. His Richmond lineage: (Olney9, Lyman M.8, David7, Preserved6, Adam5, Stephen4, John3, Edward2, John1). He was a Civil War veteran who was assigned to Co. A 14 Regiment Michigan (not G as stated in the J.B. Richmond book).

Olney Richmond participated in Sherman's March To The Sea...was his regiment part of the Union troops who removed the tombstones in Colonial Park cemetery in downtown Savannah in order to exercise their horses? The misplaced stones were attached to the brick wall (above).

Olney Richmond was included in this WorldConnect tree at Rootsweb. Olney's claim to fame was his participation in the Chief Order of the Magi. (His picture can be seen at that link). Olney moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he died in 1920. The Illinois Death Index (online) had this record:
RICHMOND OLVEY H M/W UNK 6013322 1920-03-30 COOK CHICAGO 20-04-05
Don't know where he was buried.

He and his wife, Cornelia (Hall) Richmond, parted ways by 1900. Cornelia was living in Colorado:

Sheridan, W.J., head, March 1869, m5, England Eng France, To US 1882, Na, Physician
", Marta, wife, June 1878, m5, 1child/0 Living, MI MI OH
Richmond, Cornelia, mother-in-law, May 1845, div, 2ch/2living, OH NY NY

In 1910 Cornelia Richmond was living in Utah with her divorced daughter, Florence Shafer. Florence was working for the Forest Service. In 1920 mother and daughter were still living together in Utah; both were listed as widowed.
