DECLARATION For An Original Invalid Pension
State of Michigan, County of Saginaw, ss. On This 23rd day of August A.D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight personally appeared before me Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court a Court of Record within and for the county and State aforesaid Emory C. Richmond aged 48 years, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Emory C. Richmond who was ENROLLED on the _ day of September, 1862, in company C of the 6th regiment of Mich Cavalry commanded by Capt. Wesley Armstrong and was honorable DISCHARGED at Washington D.C. on the 10th day of June, 1865; That his personal description is as follows: Age 48 years; height 5 feet 10 inches; complexion light hair, light; eyes blue. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and in the line of his duty at Shennandoah Valley in the State of Virginia on or about the 1st day of September, 1864, he contracted typhoid fever and rheumatism. That he had the fever for three or four weeks and while convalescing was affected by rheumatism which became chronic to have been troubled by the same ever since.
That he was treated in hospitals as follows: Frederick City, MD. Transferred to Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA and from there to convalescence Camp near Alexandria, Virginia. That he has not been employed in the military or naval service otherwise than stated above. That he has not been in the military or naval service of the United States since the 10th day of June 1865. That since leaving the service this applicant has resided in the counties of Lapeer, Mecosta and Saginaw in the State of Michigan, and that his occupation has been that of farming. That prior to his entry into the service above named he was a man of good, sound physical health, being when enrolled a lumberman. That he is now two thirds or three fourths disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor by reason of his injuries, above described, received in the service of the United States; and he therefore makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the invalid pension roll of the United States. That he as not received or applied for a pension; that his residence is Brant, Saginaw County Michigan and that his post office address is Brant Saginaw County Michigan. Emory C. Also personally appeared Squire R. Sheldon, residing at the City of Saginaw, and Peter Perry, residing at the City of Saginaw, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Emory C. Richmond, the claimant sign his name (make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with him that he is the identical person he represents himself to be; and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.

GENERAL AFFIDAVIT.

In the matter of the claim for pension of Emory C. Richmond, Origl Invalid (No. 657729) of ____ ___ of Company C 6th Regiment Mich. Cav. Volunteers. On this 13th day of August 1889 personally came before me a Notary Public in and for said County and State Squire R. Sheldon and who, being duly sworn, states as follows: I am aged 40 years and a citizen of the County of Saginaw and State of Michigan and that my Post Office address is Saginaw City That I am well and intimately acquainted with the above named claimant Emory C. Richmond, and have been since the year 1871. I have lived neighbor to him a part of that time in our first acquaintance, and ____ have seen him quite often. From my first acquaintance with him, he has been a great sufferer from rheumatism, chronic diarrhea and piles, and so bad at times that he was unable to labor, during the last few years he has been growing worse, and at the present time I don not consider that he could perform 1/3 of an able bodied man's labor ordinary and of heavy work none at all My means of knowing the above facts are, that of his complaining of the above named disabilities from his being lame, and having to use a cane at times in walking and his constant use of remedies, and his emaciated appearance and from his being unable to labor.
That I have no interest, direct or indirect in the prosecution of said claim.

In the matter of the claim for pension of Emory C. Richmond (No. 657729) of Emory C. Richmond, late Private, of Company C Sixth Regiment Mich Cavalry Volunteers. On this 10 day of July 1890 personally came before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for said County and State Daniel B. Collison and who, being duly sworn, states as follows: I am aged forty years and a citizen of the County of Mecosta and State of Michigan and that my Post Office address is Big Rapids County of Mecosta - State of Michigan - who declares as follows have known the above named Claimant Emory C. Richmond for fifteen years and that he has been troubled with rheumatism over fourteen years and he was not able to work over one fourth of his time and for the last two years he was totally disabled.

County of Douglas
In the matter of the claim for pension of Emory C. Richmond, Org Invalid (No 657729) of Brant, Mich. Sat of Company “C” 6th Regiment Mich Mounted Volunteers. On this 29th day of July 1889, personally came before me, a Notary Public in and for said County and State Albert B. Dimond and who, being duly sworn, states as follows: I am aged 47 years and a citizen of the County of Douglas and State of Illinois and that my Post Office address is Arcold, Douglas County Illinois. I served in the same Co and Regiment with the above named claimant about September 1864 the said claimant was taken sick with some kind of a fever and sent to hospital. He rejoined his company and regiment at near Winchester Va some time during the winter of 1864-5. After he rejoined the regiment he often complained of stiffness in the back & hips and seemed to suffer considerably but was able to do such duty as was assigned to him in camp On about March 1865 our command marched from our camp near Winchester Va by the way of Charlottesville Va to City Point Va. On said march the claimant suffered so much from rheumatism that he often asked his comrades to assist him to mount and dismount. I believe the said claimant was a sound man when enlisted. He had every appearance of a young man in perfect health.
