Rachel Holmes applied for a Civil War pension based upon the service of her son, Alexander Holmes, in Company B, 77th NY Infantry Regiment, who died October 20, 1862, in Baltimore of typhoid:

There is a Rachel Holmes buried in the Ballston Spa Cemetery, Saratoga County, identified in FindAGrave as Rachel Broadwell Lindsley Holmes.  I believe that the information at FindAGrave may be incorrect.  The John Holmes named as the husband of the "other" Rachel died 29 Sept. 1860, and is also buried at Ballston Spa.
